WYNN—ENCORE SPA Wynn—Encore Spa
The Dumbell Man Teams with Wynn, in the creation of the new Encore Spa.
December 22, 2008 – Las Vegas, Nevada, USA marked the opening of Wynn Resorts Ltd.’s $2.3 billion, 2,034 room Las Vegas Strip jewel, Encore. Located next door to the flagship property Wynn Las Vegas on the remaining frontage of Las Vegas Boulevard, ground was originally broken on April 28, 2006, the one year anniversary of the original resort.
Encore has 61 floors, making it the same size as Wynn.

Along with a 74,000-square-foot casino, 5 restaurants, 11 retail outlets, and nightclub “XS”, the hotel will feature a 61,000-square-foot luxury spa that sets a new standard with its grandeur. The Dumbell Man (TDM), a CYBEX Dealer, designed, supplied, and will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the spa’s 5,000-square-foot-plus fitness center, which includes CYBEX equipment. It is readily apparent upon entry into the fitness center that the objective of meshing dramatic design elements with uncompromised function to capture a unique guest experience has been achieved.

Ryan Crabbe, Director of Spa Operations, stated: “It is with good reason The Dumbell Man carries the stellar reputation they do. This fitness center is simply spectacular, and has ‘wowed’ absolutely everyone who has previewed it. The Dumbell Man’s unyielding commitment to Wynn Resorts has been nothing short of remarkable.”

The Dolphin Fitness Club located in Central London, UK
The Dolphin Fitness Club in Pimlico has received a £2 million facelift – showcasing both CYBEX strength and cardio equipment. The 10,000 sqft facility, which is owned by private investors and is part of the prestigious Dolphin Square complex, first came to fruition when the square was built in 1936. It was at that time the largest block of flats in Europe and offered a decadent style of London living.

This sense of 1930s decadence is now reflected in the new club which offers five star facilities combined with personal service.

Jonathan Acott, Club Manager at Dolphin Fitness Club explained, “We aim to offer a laid back country club feel with the defining factor being our personal service. We focus on regular interaction with our members. For example both I and members of my sales team are studio class instructors.”

The two phase development was completed in December 2008, with phase one including the creation of a stunning swimming pool and phase two focusing on the 3500sqft gym. Now featuring 37 stations of CYBEX CV and resistance equipment, the gym offers members a spacious user friendly facility.

Commenting on his decision to use CYBEX equipment Jonathan Acott, said, “The gym hadn’t been refurbished for over ten years so was in need of a good overhaul. I was keen to go to a single supplier and was impressed by the level of customer service prior to our purchasing decision. CYBEX really went the extra mile. They also offer premium quality equipment which is sensibly priced making it excellent value for money.”

In addition to the pool and gym, the club also offers its 2000 members three studios, sauna, steam room and changing rooms, which were all included in the refurbishment, as well as squash courts, riverside tennis court and croquet lawn. The club aims to grow its membership by 50%. Memberships start from £70 per month.

CYBEX — Employees Embracing Fitness
As people look to the new year for those get fit resolutions, there are many CYBEX employees who are actively involved in fitness throughout the year. Below are a few highlights from this past year, and the events employees have participated in.

•Jennifer Powell, Kristen Arnold, and Tanya Nolan all participated in the Danskin Triathlon for women in July 2008. Over 2000 women participated in the event which took place in Webster MA. It was the first time for Jennifer and Tanya participating in this event, and the 2nd for Kristen who also did the triathlon the prior year.

• John Young — for me running is an essential part of my lifestyle. Running helps me keep a balance with work and of course it keeps me fit. In my travels for the company, I suffer constantly from jetlag — running helps me recover quicker. Finding a hotel gym with poor equipment is no excuse for missing out on a workout. I can slip on my trainers and go out for a run, enjoy the fresh air and learn more about the city.

I train with my wife Gigi. She’s not only a very strong runner but has better discipline to stick to the training program – this helps me stay with the training despite work commitments.

The races I did this last year include: Dubai Marathon — This year was my second Dubai marathon and I finished with a respectable time of 3hr 23mins.

Boston Marathon — Being part in this year’s 112th Boston Marathon was without a doubt the most enjoyable and exciting event I have ever participated! I finished the event with a personal best time of 3hrs 21mins. Recalling the sense of pride and relief as I crossed the finishing line in Boston still gives me the shivers!

I also completed an “Eco-marathon” in North Italy during the summer. I entered the race with three other friends including my wife Gigi. We finished as winners of the Team Event, and were proudly presented with a leg of Tuscany ham and a large whole cheese. This was the first edible trophy I have ever had from a marathon!

Berlin Marathon - The Berlin marathon is one of the five “majors” in the world (including Boston). We lined up alongside the Ethiopian running legend Haile Gebrselassie. He broke the world record again in Berlin to finish in 2hrs 3mins and 59 seconds. Unfortunately I suffered a sever Achilles tendon injury at the 19 mile stage, limping home a few minutes slower than Boston. This experience taught me to have a greater respect for the distance, and to work through severe pain.

• Jennifer Noeldner — on July 12, 2008 the LifeTime Fitness Corporate Challenge was held at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis, MN. CYBEX chose to participate as a Corporate Sponsor and made a donation to the American Cancer Society as the entry fee.

Paul Dolan, Sr. Director of Business Development, championed and organized CYBEX’s participation and support of this fitness-oriented and National Account- sponsored event.

The Corporate team sponsored by CYBEX was comprised of two Life Time Fitness employees, Katie Buecksler and Dustin Zembal, as well as Jennifer Noeldner of CYBEX.

The course consisted of a 1.5K swim, a 40K bike and a 10K run. The team placed 9 out of 60 Open finishers at a time of 2:30:01.9.

Jennifer stated "I felt very fortunate to participate in such a worthwhile event and proud to work for an organization that supports such an event. In addition, it was a lot of fun!"

• John Derocher — My first motocross race since 1993 and I managed to finish unscathed coming in second place in the 40+ A class! To say I am surprised is an understatement.

I bought my used ’06 Yamaha YZ250 back in October, and after a quick ride, I knew I wanted to get back out on the track again. I started training in the CYBEX Institute and arranging for support and sponsors to help with the cost of the endeavor. After consulting with my wife Nellie, we determined that my first race would be April 21st and marked it on the calendar.

The first moto: The 30 second card goes sideways, and now the gate will fall within the next 10 seconds. As I held the gas at half throttle and the clutch just on the verge of engaging, the gate drops! Twenty of us forty plus year old men go full throttle towards the first turn. I got a great jump out of the gate and came into the first turn with another rider who sweeps around the outside and into first place. I am still amazed that I exited the first turn in second place and my adrenaline was maxed. There simply is no better feeling than to experience the first turn in a motocross race. Six laps later with my forearms feeling like solid rocks, I crossed the finish line in second place. Not bad for my first race back, I thought to myself.

My preparation and planning paid off and I am anxiously waiting each next race! Without the support of CYBEX, Panolin Oil, Smith Goggles, DeCal Works, Acerbis, Kenda Tires, Twin Air, Sidewinder Sprockets, and my wife none of my adventure would be possible. Thank you.

• Bill Pacheco – During the week of September 7, 2008, Bill participated in a 262 mile, 4 day cycling event titled the “Tour De Force”. This event raises money to the family of police officers effected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks as well as officers killed in the line of duty. The ride started at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA and ended up at the World Trade Center site in NY on 9/11. There were approximately 120 cyclists and $250K raised.

My goals for the ride were to help assist those affected by those events and to challenge myself personally. Although difficult at times, it ended up being a very rewarding experience. It enabled me to have an inside view on the bond between those who risk their lives on the line to protect the community. The most touching moment was when we stopped at a cemetery of a police officer killed on 8/22 by a drunk driver. All the riders took off their helmets and held a moment of silence. The widow of the officer, who happened to be pregnant with their first child, was presented with a check for $5K. She was extremely grateful by the show of support and felt that this allowed for healing and a sense of closure.

I felt the most patriotic when we cycled around the ground zero site in NY and stopped for another moment of silence. The extent of the damage is hard to place into words and the wounds are still open to many I rode with. • Lee Taylor — Inducted into Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame. On September 7, 2008, Aleli “Lee” Yniguez Taylor was inducted posthumously into The Connecticut Field Hockey Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Plantsville, CT; honoring Lee and six other distinguished high school and college players, coaches and umpires.

Jeff Taylor and their three children, Ryan, Zachary and Lindsay accepted the presentation and spoke of Lee’s dedication, discipline and of her tremendous drive to succeed. The winning was never her goal, but doing what it took to win.

Lee was Vice-President of CYBEX Capital from 2001 to late 2006 when she passed away from cancer. While serving CYBEX, Lee was team captain once again and earned never ending All-American honors.
