Guest speaker Alex Jamieson, chef, holistic health expert, and author of The Great American Detox Diet, and creator of Week In A Weekend, will lead you through a four hour journey on the physical, emotional, and biochemical causes for cravings. Through her expert knowledge and experience Alex will share ways to dissolve cravings easily and painlessly. You’ll understand what your current symptoms (exhaustion, headaches, poor sleep) indicate about your diet and quickly eliminate paths that won’t work for you and move swiftly toward an approach that you enjoy so much you’re delighted to make it a part of your life. Then sharing delicious recipes to invigorate your body, Alex will offer a complete solution to food, eating and better health.

Exercise and Aging

9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
Angela Corcoran

Designed to educate personal trainers on the general effects of aging, the first half of this workshop will examine the specific effects of aging on the various systems of the human body and how exercise can slow or prevent these processes. The second part will detail important considerations in exercise testing, objectives for exercise programs, and considerations for prescribing exercise for an aging population.

Programming for Young Athletes

Young athletes have special needs when it comes to sports conditioning and injury prevention. They need to vary their training routine and have parents and coaches who help them develop discipline on and off the field. This workshop will uncover the structural, physiological and psychological considerations of training and programming for young athletes and give real-life skills so that coaches can improve their young athlete’s performance.

Career Development "Advancing to the Next Level"

This course will focus on developing techniques, guidelines and strategies for the certified fitness professional to advance themselves in today’s fitness industry. These advancements will cover a wide range of areas including: continued education, professional stature/intra-company advancement, publication, presenting, mentoring, business strategies and system implementation.

The Personal Training Industry, It’s History, It’s Future

The United States remains one of few countries around the globe devoid of a national standard for personal training. There are many perspectives on the need for a consistent standard and just as many for the governing body or organization through which a standard should be regulated. Over the past 10 years there has been an abundance of legislation at the state and federal levels suggesting that this movement is gaining momentum. If the fitness industry were regulated, how would it affect you? This pre-conference workshop looks at the history of personal training, the standards of regulation around the globe and current legislation facing the US.
