Paul Juris, Ed.D. - Executive Director

Paul Juris, Ed.D.

The Cybex Research Institute (CRI) is led by Dr. Paul Juris, a noted kinesiologist specializing in education, motor skill development, sports performance enhancement, rehabilitation, and intuitive program development.

Paul works with scientists and engineers at Cybex, as well as academic research partners and distinguished fitness professionals, to provide the science for new products, deliver exercise research and education to the fitness industry, and create outstanding educational programming.

Paul was previously Vice President, Science and Education, at PGA Kinematics Lab. He served as Director of the Equinox Fitness Training Institute, where he created programming to support over 500 personal trainers in 18 clubs nationwide. His clinical experience includes a position as Kinesiologist/Research Coordinator for the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City. He has also provided extensive sports development, rehabilitation, and educational consulting for organizations including the NBA, NHL, USTA, US Cycling Federation, the PGA, and US Equestrian Team.

He earned his Doctorate in Motor Learning from Columbia University in 1993, followed by a variety of positions in higher education, rehabilitative medicine, professional sports, and fitness. Paul was named Executive Director of the Cybex Institute for Exercise Science in January of 2007.

Susan Sotir, Ph.D. - Education Specialist

Susan brings over 25 years of experience in sport, coaching, and education to the Cybex Research Institute. Prior to joining Cybex, she taught courses in motor learning and skill acquisition, research methods, and statistics at Springfield College. She was a coach with Minuteman Masters Swim Team, teaching and coaching adult athletes, from beginners seeking fitness to professional triathletes. She has been a member of the coaching staff for the USA Triathlon Northeast Regional Development Camp and the Northeast Collegiate Draft Legal Triathlon Camp. In addition, Susan has served as a consultant for elite athletes and coaches regarding the development and integration of mental skills into sport practice and performance.

Susan earned her Ph.D. in Sport and Exercise Psychology from Springfield College. Her research there examined the psychological, physiological, and performance effects of psychological skill instruction and use. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS) and has been a presenter on psychological factors influencing exercise performance and adherence at regional NSCA and NEHRSA events.

Heather Coppock - Teaching Fellow

Heather Coppock

Heather brings a wealth of knowledge on the physiology of sport to her role at the Cybex Research Institute. As an Instructor at Salem State University, she teaches classes in the Sport and Movement Science Department including Exercise Physiology, Strength and Conditioning, Strength and Conditioning Techniques, Fundamentals of Exercise, Nutrition for Sport and Physical Performance, Advanced Resistance Training, and directed field study.

Her research experience includes involvement in projects such as the Validation of MedGem as a device for measuring resting metabolic rate and Quercetin as a countermeasure to immune dysfunction by prolonged intense physical stress.

Heather earned her BA in Athletic Training from Northeastern University and graduated with honors from Appalachian State University with a Masters in Exercise Science. She is a strong advocate for integrating the science and practice of exercise to make it an integral part of the healthcare continuum.

Cory Hofmann - Research Project Manager

Cory Hofmann

As a member of the Cybex Research Institute faculty, Cory is responsible for managing a wide range of research projects aimed at uncovering scientific truths that drive the design and development of Cybex products. His past research has focused on the development of robotic exoskeletons for the hand, cardiorespiratory variability, the biomechanics of the foot and ankle during locomotion, and the influence of muscle activity on the skeletal structure of the upper limb.

Cory graduated cum laude from The College of New Jersey with a Bachelor in Engineering Science–Biomedical Engineering. He holds a Master of Science in both Mechanical Engineering and Kinesiology – Biomechanics from The Pennsylvania State University.

Scott Moody - Teaching Fellow

Scott Moody

Scott has been an innovative leader in the sports performance training industry, creating and researching developmental strength, speed and conditioning models for thousands of players and coaches in over 30 countries.

He created the not-for-profit National Human Performance Institute and set in motion his 4T model of Testing, Teaching, Training and Tracking. He is also the founder of AthleteFIT and pioneered Functionally Integrated Training (F.I.T.), which blends the physical side of training with tactical and technical skills.

As a Teaching Fellow with CRI, he is working to integrate his F.I.T. model into high intensity strength and conditioning programs. Scott is a featured speaker, author, and consultant for teams, clubs and organizations throughout the United States, and publishes a blog at www.AthleteFIT.com.

Following his collegiate football career at Louisiana Tech University, Scott spent two years as assistant strength and conditioning coach. Prior to that, he was an exercise specialist at Sports Care, a sports rehabilitation facility within the St. Luke’s-Shawnee Mission Health System.

Ben Wilde - International Training Director

Ben Wilde

Ben is responsible for delivering Cybex training to sales teams, instructors, trainers, and coaches worldwide. He draws on six years as the Cybex UK Master Trainer, his experience successfully running the Cybex UK sales team, and his former role as Group Fitness Manager for a National UK Fitness Chain to provide leadership and insight. Ben graduated with honors from Brunel University, London, with a Bachelor’s in Exercise Science, majoring in Exercise Physiology. He also subsequently qualified to teach and lecture at the same University.

Chris Rock - International Training Manager

Chris Rock

Chris has a passion for using education to motivate and encourage trainers, sales people, and athletes alike. His dynamic approach to training and extensive experience as a personal trainer and coach make Chris a highly effective teacher, mentor, manager, and leader. He is an accredited Strength and Conditioning Specialist and has taught courses to trainers and athletes of varying ages and abilities for more than a decade. Prior to joining Cybex, Chris worked at the University of Bristol, UK with the Fitness Operations team and the Sports Medicine Clinic. He has also been involved in community exercise referral, including Phase IV Cardiac Rehabilitation, Obesity and Diabetes Management. Chris graduated with honors in Sport and Exercise from the University of Gloucestershire, UK.
