FAQ's
GENERAL INFORMATION
What is TRAZER®?
TRAZER is a computer-based system that combines the training effectiveness of a flight simulator and the challenge of video games to create fun and functional fitness challenges, games, tests, drills and rehabilitation programs.
How does TRAZER work?
TRAZER uses movement tracking and virtual reality technologies to create programs that measure and improve functional & sports performance movement skills.
What capabilities and skills can TRAZER measure?
TRAZER measures the key elements of agility, coordination and balance, reaction time, quickness, speed, movement power, and optimal center of gravity control for power and stability. TRAZER also estimates calories burned, and if used while wearing a Polar or Polar-compatible heart rate monitor, measures average and peak beats per minutes.
Who can benefit from TRAZER?
TRAZER is “Virtual reality for virtually everyone!”® If you can follow simple instructions and have at least partial mobility, you can use TRAZER to achieve a wide range of goals. Think of it as something fun and functional that the whole family, including kids, parents and grandparents, can use and benefit from. Coaches, trainers, teachers and medical professionals benefit as well by quantifying current performance levels, expanding and enhancing training programs, measuring progress and documenting results.
What are some of those benefits/goals?
Cardiovascular training, weight loss, functional movement training, enhanced sports performance, core stability, dynamic balance for fall prevention, faster rehabilitation, improved visual and spatial awareness, and increased motivation in all programs to name a few. Or just having fun while burning calories, if that’s your goal.

COMPATIBLE VIDEO SOURCES
What type of video display monitors work with TRAZER?
There are three general categories that work with TRAZER.
Computer Monitors: Anything from the old fashioned 17” traditional CRT monitor to the newer 19”-24” LCD flat-panels will work with TRAZER. Cybex can provide you with a Samsung 214T 21” flat-panel monitor to complete your TRAZER package.
The latest generation of computer-compatible big-screen rear projection monitors offering screen sizes up to 60”. These units look great and make a tremendous impact, but they require a special platform or wall mounting to place at proper height for use with TRAZER. Note: In order to be used with TRAZER, any unit being considered MUST have a 15 pin VGA connector the same as you see on typical PC monitors. Most big screen televisions do not offer this type of connector. Plasma monitors should not be used as the infrared light they produce can interfere with the TRAZER beacon.
Any projector that has a 15-pin VGA connector and 800 x 600 display resolution or higher. Note that required brightness and contrast specifications will vary depending on ability to control ambient light in the planned TRAZER use location.
OPERATING REQUIREMENTS
What are the electrical requirements for TRAZER?
You need two (2) standard 110/60 VAC outlets to operate TRAZER and the video source. We recommend you utilize a power strip with surge protection as you would with any PC.
How much space is required for TRAZER?
The TRAZER beacon operates in an area six feet wide by six feet deep and six feet tall. TRAZER programs require a non-dedicated user area ten feet wide and ten feet deep. Use TRAZER only on floor surfaces suitable for athletic movements such as rapid starts, stops and jumping movements. The ceiling height must be a minimum of nine feet high and free of obstructions such as lights, pipes and other objects that may interfere during use.
A safety zone of three feet around the user area is required. The area inside the safety zone should not contain any other equipment or permanent fixtures such as walls, windows, stairs, railings or other obstacles. Thus to ensure establishment of a safety zone, the minimum room size for operating TRAZER is 16’ x 16’. The flooring within the safety zone should also be level. It is important to note that when the TRAZER is not in use, the area around it can be used for other activities such as spinning, yoga and stretching. In addition, TRAZER is a mobile device that can be wheeled into a corner or closet when not in use.
What else do I need to know about the space I use for TRAZER?
Since the infrared optical tracking system used by TRAZER is a light-based system, sunlight, certain types of high-intensity lighting and mirrors may affect the operation of TRAZER. Mirrors cannot be directly behind the user or immediately parallel (less than 8’) to TRAZER. Please note that other reflective surfaces, such as windows, bright white walls and other glossy surfaces, if less than 8’ from the TRAZER, may impact TRAZER performance. Please consult with your Cybex sales professional or Cybex authorized distributor prior to purchasing a TRAZER if you have any questions regarding your operating environment.

Use the F5 key to increase and F6 to decrease the sound level, press F10 for mute.
How do I adjust for color, contrast and brightness on TRAZER?
Please refer to your Monitor’s Instruction Manual.

Make sure the user’s movements are in the “Beacon Sensing Area 6 x 6”. Consult the Safety Section of the Owner’s Manual for details.
Make sure the user’s hands, arms and/or clothing are not blocking the beacon.

What is the warranty on the TRAZER?
Trazer has a one year parts and labor warranty except for belts, beacons and keyboards. Belts, beacons and keyboards are covered for 120 days.
Does the beacon require a special battery?
Yes, only use Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMh) batteries.
How do I know if my beacon is charging?
Look at the green light on the back of the beacon once it has been un-snapped from the belt. When the beacon is first returned to the charger pocket, the light will illuminate and remain on until the battery is fully charged. Once fully charged, if the beacon is removed from and then quickly returned to the charger pocket, the light will come back on for approximately 15 minutes before going out.
Can I add programs to TRAZER?
Only those programs supplied and supported by Cybex. The introduction of any other software will damage the TRAZER operating system and program, thus voiding the warranty.
