Why does my increment weight knob not turn?
The increment weight knobs should be turned to select a weight value only - prior - to actually lifting the weights. The increment knob should never be turned or adjusted after you have begun to lift the weights up as this can cause the internal mechanism to bind or break. There should be a round sticker on your weight shield that warns users against adjusting the knob while lifting.
The weight plates are chattering and binding on the guide rods
This can be caused by dirt/dust residue up on the guide rods or lack of guide rod lubrication. First clean the guide rods to remove any residue. Next apply a light coating of 30 weight motor oil to a cloth and wipe it on to coat the guide rods. Note: DO NOT use any silicone or other lubricants on the guide rods – use only 30 weight motor oil.
When do I need to replace my cables and/or belts?
Cables and belts should be inspected on a regular, routine basis and replaced at least once a year as a preventive measure. Inspect for any fraying at the ends and also check for kinks, twisting or stretching as all are signs of damage. If a cable or belt exhibits any of these symptoms, it needs to be replaced immediately.
What would cause a belt to break more than once?
In addition to the checks above, belts also should be checked to make sure they are running centered on their pulleys -because if they are misaligned and run off center, they can ride against the edge of the pulley and that can cause premature fraying or damage to the belt. If a belt exhibits any fraying, kinks or twisting, it needs to be replaced immediately. If a pulley appears to be crocked or bent or not running true call your dealer, authorized CYBEX service provider or CYBEX Service for assistance.
How do I clean the upholstery?
Wipe down upholstery as recommended below.
Light Soiling
A solution of 10% household liquid dish soap with warm water can be applied with a soft damp cloth. If necessary, a solution of liquid cleanser and water can be applied with a soft bristle brush.
Wipe away the residue with a water-dampened cloth.
More Difficult Stains
Dampen a soft white cloth with a solution of household bleach, 10% bleach, 90% water and rub on gently. Rinse with a water dampened cloth to remove any of the bleach concentrate.
Alternative method for difficult stains
Dampen a soft white cloth with rubbing alcohol and rub gently.
Rinse with a water dampened cloth to remove any residual alcohol.
What do you recommend I use to clean the metal parts of my strength equipment?
Frames
Wipe down all frames using a mild solution of warm water and car wash soap. Be sure to dry thoroughly.
Chrome
Clean chrome tubes, first using chrome polish and then use a car wax seal. Neutral cleaners with a pH balance between 5.5 and 8.5 are recommended. Be sure to dry thoroughly.
Note: Always AVOID acid or chlorine-based cleaners and also cleaners containing abrasives as these could scratch or damage the equipment.
What additional maintenance procedures are recommended for my strength equipment?
In addition to cleaning, lubrication and inspecting the cables, there are other things you want to inspect, adjust or tighten.
Inspect the welds on the frame and tubing for cracks or rusting.
A crack in the paint may mean a tube is bent or a weld has broken and is a difficult spot to prevent rust from forming.
Check the cables and belts for proper tension and adjust as needed.
Check all hardware for loose bolts or nuts. If hardware is loose ,the holes and mountings will start to wear and the machine will not operate properly and damage to the machine could result.
